Achievements Of Yasser Arafat
Yasser Arafat is seen as a symbol of Palestine’s cause. His people say Yasser Arafat stands for Palestine’s fight for freedom. This is why he is “Known as the father of Palestinian nationalism…” and loved by his people (“Yasser Arafat”). “What mattered was that he personified their fight for freedom, kept alive their hopes and defied their enemies” even though what he did to keep their hopes alive was horrible (“Yasser Arafat; Obituary”). He was officially made a symbol and leader for Palestine when “Arafat was elected leader of the new Palestinian Authority (PA) in January 1996 with 88 percent of the vote in elections…” against a women (Blackwell). Palestinians believed in him and thought he had what it takes to help them. “Arafat inspires affection and loyalty in a way no other living Palestinian does” (Abunimah).
